How RAISE Rochdale PRS Promotes SMSC
1. Spiritual Development
RAISE Rochdale PRS promotes spiritual development by helping learners to:
Reflect on their emotions, behaviour, and personal experiences through mentoring and restorative conversations.
Build self-worth and resilience (PD Turnaround Curriculum), particularly for learners who have struggled in mainstream environments.
Engage in activities such as art, cooking, enrichment, or mindfulness (Learning Mentor Team), which encourage creativity, self-expression, and reflection.
Explore beliefs, values, and identity in a safe, non-judgemental setting (PD PSHE Curriculum, VotesforSchools, DEAR).
2. Moral Development
Because behaviour support is a central part of RAISE Rochdale PRS, moral development is embedded in daily practice:
Use of restorative justice (Behaviour Policy) to help learners understand consequences and repair relationships.
Clear behaviour expectations (Be Ready, Be Respectful, Be Safe) alongside personalised support (Learning Mentor Team) help learners understand right from wrong.
Opportunities to discuss ethical issues such as crime, online safety, substance misuse, and peer pressure (PD Curriculum PSHE & Turnaround, VotesforSchools, outside speakers including Youth Justice, and the ICT Curriculum).
Staff model positive decision-making and consistently reinforce responsibility, honesty, respect, and boundaries.
3. Social Development
At RAISE Rochdale PRS, we actively help learners to rebuild social skills through:
Small group settings that encourage collaboration and communication.
Support with emotional regulation (Learning Mentors), conflict resolution (Behaviour Policy), and teamwork (PD Turnaround Curriculum, Enrichment).
Social skills programmes (PD Turnaround) and therapeutic interventions (Learning Mentors, including SALT).
Opportunities to improve attendance and punctuality, encouraging responsibility and the development of positive routines.
4. Cultural Development
To promote cultural understanding, RAISE Rochdale PRS:
Celebrates cultural events and festivals (School Calendar, VotesforSchools).
Exposes learners to cultural experiences they may have missed, such as museum visits (Enrichment activities), sports events (sports fixtures), or theatre visits (links with The Lowry and M6 Theatre Company).
Teaches respect for diversity, equality, and different lifestyles, which is particularly important in settings with high levels of social vulnerability (PD Curriculum).
